Several Nashville steakhouses will join the Tennessee Beef Council and the Greater Nashville Hospitality Association this week to raise funds and awareness for four deserving Nashville non profits. Each non profit will have a dedicated night at the participating steakhouses. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to that particular organization and volunteers will be onsite to give more information on each charity. Participating restaurants include:  Fleming’s, Morton’s, Ruth’s Chris, Old Hickory Steakhouse, Sperry’s, and Stoney River.

The schedule for the week is:

Sunday January 2nd – Second Harvest Food Bank

Monday January 3rd – Make a Wish Foundation

Tuesday January 4th – Alive Hospice

Wednesday January 5th – Happy Tales

Thursday January 6th – Proceeds are divided among all 4 organizations

September is Hunger Action Month for the the Second Harvest Food Bank. This month they’ve focused on easy ways to contribute to Second Harvest to fight hunger in middle TN.  We’re coming down the home stretch of September but there’s still time to pitch in and do your part in the fight against hunger. Looking for some painless ways to help? Here are a few ideas.

1. Buy a prepackaged bag of food at you local Kroger. These bags are usually placed close to the check out areas and are filled with some of Second Harvest’s most needed items.

2. Volunteer at a local Second Harvest food bank or at the Second Harvest distribution center.

3.  Make a donation on the Second Harvest website. Did you know that Second Harvest can provide 20 meals with a $5.00 donation?

4. Hold a virtual food drive. Holding a virtual food drive is an easy way to encourage your friends, family, and co-workers to contribute. Second Harvest will set up a special website that allows users to choose what they would like to donation or how much they would like to donate. There is also the option to allow those outside of middle TN to donate to their local Second Harvest location.

5. Have lunch at the First Harvest Cafe.  Every Friday, the Second Harvest location in Metro Center serves a gourmet lunch for $12. All proceeds go to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle TN.  

6. Plan a company or family event at the Second Harvest Culinary Arts Center. Second Harvest will cater the event will all proceeds going to Second Harvest.

7. Clean out your cabinets and donate some of your nonperishable food items. Below is a list of the most needed items.

8. Love to cook? Volunteer to work at the Culinary Arts Center. The Second Harvest location in metro center cooks lunch for First Harvest cafe on Friday and feeds the Titans coaches three days a week.
