Nashville Food Find: Panaderia y La Favorita Pasteleria

One of the things I love about Nashville is the melting pot of cultures that thrive in certain parts of town. South Nashville has a large immigrant community that has opened a wide range of businesses - everything from car dealerships to grocery stores. International food products that would ordinarily be hard to find, are easily accessible at several local markets along Nolensville road. Being the intrepid foodie that I am, I love  visiting different establishments to explore what’s available. Often these shops are cheaper that buying from grocery store chains like Kroger and Publix.

Tucked away in a strip mall not far from the Nolensville Road/ Old Hickory Blvd intersection is a Mexican bakery named Panaderia y La Favorita Pasteleria. Depending on the time of day you visit, you can choose from 15 to 20 types of cookies, cakes, and sweet breads. Mexican pasteries has an interesting mix of flavor combinations that you don’t find in american bakeries. Guava and vanilla infused flour are common flavorings.  Stop in and try the strawberry and guava cake or the conchas. Be sure to come in the afternoon after the pastries made in the morning have made it to the shelves. It’s worth the trip.
