Homegrown tomatoes here I come !

Every summer I start craving juicy homegrown tomatoes. Not the tasteless, bland, nondescript  tomatoes at the grocery store, but the fresh vibrant sweet tomatoes from someone’s garden. My father had gardens my entire childhood. I remember him sitting down with his gardening catalogs in the winter and meticulously going through every page to find that perfect package of seeds. It seemed like we had tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers for months. Back then I didn’t appreciate the bounty of fresh vegetables or the work that Daddy put into tending his garden. Now as an adult, I look back and wish that I had paid more attention when he was out there working.

I’ve wanted to plant a small tomato patch for a few years but I always procrastinate until it’s too late in the season to plant anything. NOT THIS YEAR. I went to Lowe’s last week and bought some seeds and started reading up on how to plant tomatoes. I have a pack of yellow pear tomatoes and a pack of gardener’s delight cherry tomatoes. I’m going to pick up potting soil, gloves, and a garden hoe tomorrow. I only have a small patch of land that I can use for planting so we will only have s few plants but I can’t wait. I’ll post my progress and recipes over the summer.

There was an article in Martha Stewart Living last month about grown tomatoes. It had some good information if you need any tips.
